I am running for re-election to represent Senate District 24 in Billings. I have been honored to serve you for the past two sessions in the Senate and, previously, for two sessions in the Montana House. I work hard to represent the diverse priorities and concerns of my constituents and neighbors and am proud of my record. For example, I have received honorable mention twice from the Montana Chamber of Commerce while also being recognized by organizations like Montana Conservation Voters.
During the 2017 session I successfully passed legislation on a bi-partisan basis to benefit constituents, including SB 58 which provides protections for homeowners facing insurance termination for unfunded claims, and SB 118 to ensure appropriate access to digital assets. I chair the Energy and Telecommunications Interim Committee (ETIC) and am optimistic that we can find new options for modernizing the grid, incorporating emerging energy sources, and developing new ways to address our changing energy landscape. I am also committed to government transparency and chair the Legislative Audit Committee, the Constitutionally-mandated Committee for holding all agencies accountable. My priorities include fiscal accountability, access to public lands, support for public education, and continuing Medicaid coverage for the thousands of Montanans who previously lacked access to health care. While I served on the Senate budget committee I opposed the final 2017 budget and the Special Session budget because of the impacts on our most vulnerable populations. I believe we can do better and continue to be fiscally responsible. I remain committed to that goal.
